The MVD is empty on a Friday morning. Weird.

HAHA! We all already know how to drive (read how to not signal every time we make a turn or change lanes)
Enjoy the story about how you are supposed to use the blinker all the times. Ask them what to do when blinker fluid runs out

I hate how these places are literally designed for bad service. You should not have a huge waiting area, because it should not be acceptable to keep people waiting long enough that they would need to sit down. Yet every DMV is like this. I’m a supporter of big government, but you’d never see a private business designed like this, because no one would ever go there. You need to have a much higher level of service. If you are not providing it, you need to find comparables (and there are lots, both in the public sector and in private enterprise) to determine if your service is poor because you aren’t spending enough for good service, or if it is because you are spending inefficiently. In the first case, you need to fight for more money to provide the level of service people expect, in the second, you need to crack down on inefficient spending. But you shouldn’t design for bad service, or that’s certainly what you are going to get.

That looks suspiciously clean for an MVD office. New location?

Not new just a small town. I don’t think it gets much traffic after lunch time.

Eh. Sorta does it’s job. Every state has its own Motor Vehicle Division (or Department of Motor Vehicles depending how they decided to name it), but one thing that just about all Americans will agree on is that they are very painful places to go and accomplish anything in any reasonable amount of time .

Is there any attempt to put this stuff online? In the UK anything to do with the DVLA is either done online or through the post. It used to mostly be done through the post office before the internet became a thing, but common things changing owners or paying tax can be done in a couple of minutes on a nice website (seriously, gov.uk is mostly a really good example of how to do government web services) . More oddball stuff is still on paper forms, but that will all be online eventually.
This probably wouldn’t fly with the small government types though.

Lol yeah one of the weird things about the US is that while most things are the same everywhere there are always a few states that do it differently. Example - 46 states are the State of... but 4 are Commonwealth of... (Pennsylvania, Massachusett s, Delaware, Kentucky)

every state has their own system. A lot can be done online/throuh the mail. When I went the last time, I was sitting near the desk waiting for my number. I swear 1/3 of the folks the dmv employee would tell them “you know you can do this online”. Those folks were also really old
The most agrivating thing is filling out the form. going to the window, and then watch empoyee retype the form into their computer. Such a waste of time.

There is an attempt to put as much stuff as possible online. But poor service remains. Additionally, I know here in Massachusetts, some functions that could previously done online are now required to be done in person to comply with the Real ID Act (a Federal standard for identification documents).
